Submit Golden Apple and Acorn Nominations by April 21

Posted April 5th, 2015

It is that time of year again, where anyone can nominate a community member, teacher, or administrator for the Golden Acorn or Golden Apple awards.

Each year the Golden Acorn Award is presented to a volunteer in recognition of his or her dedication and service to children and youth. Since the beginning of this program, more than 44,000 Golden Acorn and Golden Apple awards have been presented to volunteers throughout Washington State. A contribution in the name of the recipients is made by the honoring PTSA to the Washington State PTA financial Grant Foundation. From these contributions, the foundation is able to provide approximately $65,000 in scholarships to freshman students entering post-secondary education.

The individual who receives the Golden Acorn Award should have volunteer experience at the local unit level, as well as in the community and / or with the school district. This is an excellent way to honor PTSA members for their contributions on behalf of children. The Golden Apple award is given to educators who have made a significant contribution above and beyond their normal duties.

Deadline for accepting these awards are Tuesday, April 21st. You can return it to the WSHS office, or email to Amy Doll @ asdoll@seattleschools.org or to Cathy DeVore @ wshsptsapresident@gmail.com. Download the Golden Acorn or Golden Apple form.

reach for the starsPTSA Far Surpasses Fundraising Goals

The Reaching for the Stars auction was a huge success. Attendance was great and included alumni, booster club members and coaches, teachers and staff, parents and other family members, students, community members as well as special guests Mayor Murray and County Executive Constantine (an alumni). Guests enjoyed the evening and provided generous support of the PTSA and their support of the Westside community. We surpassed our goal and raised a whopping $91K plus thanks to matching gifts and donations from our guests. It was a night that will be remembered! Thank you for “Reaching for the Stars” – we hit the stars and more. The night was truly a celebration of West Seattle High School.

If you were not able to attend the auction but would like to make a donation, visit the auction website.
