Why Join the PTSA?

  • Improve outcomes for your student. Many studies on the relationship between student performance and family involvement in education have shown that when parents and family members are involved in education, student academic performance improves.
  • Stay informed and engaged as a parent. The WSHS PTSA keeps families up to date on school issues through the Westside Weekly email and holds meetings throughout the year with opportunities to learn about issues impacting the school and students.
  • Improve educational experiences for our students. The PTSA raises funds that pay for student and family engagement activities, lab supplies, supplemental books, sound systems, art equipment, instruments, professional development materials, AP test fees, and more!
  • Have a voice in education policy decisions. A West Seattle High School PTSA membership carries with it a vote on all PTSA matters. It also gives you membership to both the Seattle Council PTSA and Washington State PTA. Your membership, combined with over 145,000 other members, provides a powerful voice on educational issues.
  • PTSA Members are eligible for discounts.  Membership gives you access to discounts on car rentals (AVIS, Budget), printing (FedEx, Office Depot), retail (LEGO bags, Real Leather Company), entertainment (Wild Waves, Silverwood Theme Park, Angel of the Winds Arena), and more. Watch your email for after registering as a member!

Did you know…

The more PTA members we have, the more votes our representative gets at the state PTA legislative assembly in October.  This will guide the state PTA’s work during the state legislative session this year.

You can attend PTSA General Meetings and take advantage of family education opportunities without being a member.  That said, being a member gives you the ability to vote, and scholarships are available if cost is an issue.

You can be a member and support the PTSA without attending any meetings, or only attend the meetings you want.  We provide many interesting sessions, including a Q&A session with school staff at the beginning of the year, racial equity learning, and helping your teen thrive.

You DO NOT need to join the PTSA in order to volunteer at school.  And, if you join the PTSA that does not mean you have to volunteer to do anything.

The PTSA is a great way to make connections with individuals, families, and staff within the school community.  This is especially important in a time of remote learning.
